Text of Essay

Hello! My name is Mrs. Geib and I am an instructor of fourth and fifth grade incredible students at Saticoy Elementary School. In room 2, I have the privilege of sharing this class with another instructor, Mr. Wulff. He and I will be team teaching this 2010-2011 school year.

Here is some interesting information about me. I have two daughters named Elizabeth Anne (6 months old) and Julia (3 years old), as well as a husband named Richard Geib. My favorite color is blue because I find it to be a calming color. I also like black because it matches with everything and you cannot tell if it is dirty. Some hobbies I enjoy include swimming and reading. I used to swim over at the Kimball pool several times a week, but I haven’t made it over there in the past month. I enjoy swimming and need to make it more of a priority this school year. I have so many friends that I could write a separate essay about them, so I will just stick to two primary close friends. One is a friend from high school named Patty, who works as an advocate for special needs children in Los Angeles. My other cherished friend is Elisabeth, who is a GATE teacher and artist, amongst other things.

Although there are many ways to learn, I prefer to type or write out notes. It also helps for me to draw a picture or find an image associated with the learning that needs to be done. An art history teacher from high school used lots of visual images that accompanied his presentations and it made it much easier for me to remember the information even today! He inspired me to learn more about various artists and explore different galleries on my own.

I have several goals this school year. One of them is to finish the novel War and Peace, which is 1476 page novel that talks about the history leading up to Napoleon invading Russia in the 1800s and is considered one of the greatest novels written. I enjoy reading historical fiction, in which characters are placed in a particular period in history. As mentioned, I also would like to swim more often as well as exercise by biking, hiking in Arroyo, and lifting weights several times weekly. As a teacher, I want to constantly be improving my craft and developing innovative and fun ways to present information to students. There are many things to be done this school year and I look forward to the challenge!
